Police parade OPC chief over Ekiti ex-NURTW boss murder

The Ekiti Police Command on Monday paraded a former coordinator of Oodua Peoples Congress in the state, Prince Adeniyi Adedipe a.k.a Apase, over the murder of a former Ekiti State Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Omolafe Aderiye.

Aderiye, a staunch supporter of the Governor, Mr. Ayo Fayose, was killed on September 25 in Ijigbo area of the State capital, Ado-Ekiti.

The Police had earlier charged four persons to court after arresting and questioning 19 persons in respect of the killing to determine their level of culpability.

The Commissioner of Police, Taiwo Lakanu, told journalists at the Police Headquarters in Ado-Ekiti that “the available direct and circumstantial evidence necessitated the arrest and prosecution of the suspect (Adedipe).”

The Police also paraded members of a four-man gang, Chinedu Ugwu and Adekunle Osho, for conspiracy and armed robbery.

Police said they attacked one Chief Gbenga at Okeila, Ado-Ekiti and shot him on his leg before dispossesing him of his Toyota Camry which was traced to Edo State where the two suspects were arrested and the car recovered.

Two members of a seven-man armed robbery gang, Eniola Sunday and Afolayan Segun, were also paraded for breaking into two houses and carting away N105,000, two mobile sets and one Bajaj Motorcycle registration number ADK 792 QC.

The Police said they committed the offence on November 10 but were arrested on November 13 by policemen on stop and search when they sighted the motorcycle and arrested the rider, Sunday.

The command also said it has charged a notorious land grabber, Igimoney Oladapo, and his accomplices to court for threatening violence with firearms over a piece of land off Ajebamidele Road, Ado-Ekiti.
