Robbers, who kill policeman, snatch his gun, arrested

Four suspected armed robbers, who killed a policeman before taking his gun at a duty post in Agugu area of Ibadan, have been arrested by the Oyo State Police Command.

The police gave their names as Surajudeen Dauda, Ojo Olawale, Adams Yinus alias Ike Anobi and Lukman Raimi.

While parading the suspects in Ibadan on Monday, the command’s Public Relations Officer, Olabisi Ilobanefor, said the robbers also used the gun in robbing a company two weeks after killing the policeman.

She said, “On September 4, the five-man robbery gang snatched a car at gunpoint along Alakia/Iwo Road in Ibadan and drove towards Agugu. At the duty post, where the policeman was stationed, the robbers came down and shot at him, killing him on the spot before making away with his AK 47 rifle.

“Two weeks later, the robbers invaded a farm around challenge area of Ibadan, injuring the Managing Director and seven customers at the premises around 4.50pm. One of the victims was fatally shot in the eye. The hoodlums dispossessed the company’s customers of huge amount of money and mobile telephones.

“In a bid to escape, they shot two passersby and ran away through Ayefele area. After receiving information about the gang activities in the area, a team of Special Anti Robbery Squad raced to the farm but did not meet the robbers. Twenty four expended AK 47 ammunition and one empty shell were picked at the scene.”

Ilobanefor added that further investigation led to the arrest of the gang member on November 4.

She said the bandits confessed that they killed the policeman in order to take his rifle, adding that a Nissan Micra, with number plate AKD 358 SM, was found in their possession.

Also recovered from them are one AK 47 rifle, one pump action rifle, one cut-to-size double barrel gun, a locally made short gun, a stainless raven arm pistol, two AK 47 magazines, charms, 14 live ammunition of AK 47 rifle, eight assorted phones, axe, cutlass and marijuana.
